Ms. Esquire has been a great group, and special due to being mostly ladies, which brings a different vibe. Some of the activities we do during our monthly meetings bring the members closer to one another which is great. Misti Barnett
Misti Z. Barnett founded Barnett Legal Services, LLC in 2020 to provide experienced research, legal writing and litigation support services to small law firms and solo practitioners. Ms. Barnett works in state and federal courts at both the trial and appellate level. Ms. Barnett has drafted dispositive motions, jury instructions, and trial memoranda in complex litigation. Ms. Barnett also has extensive experience in all facets of appellate practice, including preservation of legal issues for appeal, appellate motions practice and briefing.
She received her juris doctor in 1988 from Brooklyn Law School and graduated cum laude from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Albany.
Ms. Barnett was an attorney with a boutique commercial firm for three years and a member of Haliczer Pettis & Schwamm, P.A.’s appellate/litigation support group for over ten years. Prior to that, Ms. Barnett served as Career Staff Attorney to the late Honorable George A. Shahood for eleven years at the Fourth District Court of Appeal. Ms. Barnett was also a trial court law clerk to various Circuit Judges at the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit Court in Broward County, Florida, in the civil, criminal and family court divisions.
Ms. Barnett is admitted to the Florida, New York and Connecticut Bars as well as the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeal. She served on The Florida Bar Journal/News Editorial Board for six years and served as its Chair and Vice-Chair during that time.
